How to Achieve Success at the Next Real Estate Trade Show

James BurbankBy James BurbankFebruary 10, 20151 Comment3 Mins Read

You may have heard various “experts” claiming that trade shows are an artifact of the past and that it is one of the most outdated promotion techniques for any business, including a real estate agency. In reality, trade shows, including those in the real estate industry which are our theme today, are still very effective when it comes to promotion and networking.

However, not everyone’s trade show experience is going to be same. There are a few things that you need to do if you wish to ensure success.

    Assemble the right team

Assembling the right trade show team is going to depend on a number of factors. For instance, how big your agency is. If you are the only one there, then you will not have that much choice – you will have to do everything yourself or hire someone for just that trade show. If your real estate firm is a bigger one, it is best to form a team from people who know how to deal with other people and who know how to keep things interesting and exciting.

    Work the internet

Internet is your biggest ally in attracting people to your booth. Weeks before the trade show even starts, you need to start telling people that it will take place and that you will be exhibiting at it. You should use your agency’s social profiles to share the information and invite people to visit you. Entice them with some special promotions and freebies that you will hand out to the visitors to your booth. Tell people that they will get a special prize if they tell about your future exhibit to 10 other people. Be creative.

    Set up the perfect booth

If this happens to be your first real estate trade show exhibition and especially if you never even attended one in the past, you will probably be lost when buying or renting the space, the booths and the exciting exhibition displays that will attract visitors. The best way to go about this is to check what the various companies have to offer and what your competition does. It is a buyer’s market out there and you should have no troubles finding the right combination of factors that will result in the perfect exhibition space for your real estate agency.

    Think interactive

There will be dozens and hundreds of real estate professionals who will be doing the same thing you are at the trade show – trying to attract visitors and spread the word about their listings and their deals. You need to do something special to stand out and the name of the game is interactivity. A good idea would be to install interactive iPad stands where people will, for example, be able to check out your listings and tour them virtually. You can also organize various raffles and games where the visitors can win money prizes or promotional material. Give people something to do at your booth. This will make them talk and you will soon have more people than you dreamed at your booth.

    Put your feelers out

Finally, you need to remember that a real estate trade show is not just about attracting visitors and advertising your business. It is the main point, but not the only one. Trade shows are perfect venues for you to see what your competitors are doing, what the general public thinks and what the biggest names in the industry are doing. Be attentive, network, gather information. It will come in handy later.

One thing we have found that works really well in real estate trade shows is sending out newsletter to your leads before the trade show and add in an incentive if they visit your booth during the trade show. It could be a free 5-page booklet on how to sell a property, what to look for in an investment property, etc.

Those initial visitors will bring in more visitors because people like to visit booths that have other visitors in it.
