Providing security is an essential step that you should keep in mind when managing your property. Security matters could affect the value of your property thus affects the potential in your investment. There is a lot of steps and methods when we are talking about security matters based on the advices from professional security experts but keep in mind that providing security for your property is very important so I recommend you take a serious look into this matter.

Let’s see some tips regarding on providing security for your property.

The first thing that you should do is knowing your property so you know how you could secure your property. Walk around your property and ask yourself – If I am a burglar or any criminal, how would or could I break in? Stand inside and outside your property and examine any blind spots or any place that can be the hidden are for the criminals. If you can think the way of breaking in, so do the burglars and criminals. Do the survey twice or thrice a year so you will know what type of security that you want to update. It is recommended not to do it alone. Do walk with your friends or partners so you can check the thing that you missed.

After understanding your property based on the survey, the next step is installing alarms and security systems to your property. Buy the best home security systems that you can afford. Some people think that minimum level and low-quality security system is enough as they think that they live in a safe neighborhood but always keep in mind that burglars and criminal never consider whether a neighborhood is safe or not when they want to break in, so don’t ever hesitate to invest in security matters for your property.

Make sure that the security system is always turned even if you or the tenants are at home. Don’t ever tell other people about the security system of your property because somebody always looking for information to trespass and override the system. As a landlord, make sure that the security system is in good and working condition. Invest in maintenance for security system and if you notice that the system is broken down, repair the system as soon as possible before something bad happens.

The next step is providing your tenants with the information on security matters so they could understand how the security system works and protecting your property from any risks. Here is a list of some security tips that you can inform your tenants.

    • Always lock the door.
    • Never leave the house key near the door or window.
    • Create a safe place for the keys so they can take them in emergency situation.
    • Seek help from neighbors to keep and eye when they are not at home for a long period.
    • Keep valuable things locked away in the safety box.

Now it is better letting the property to your tenants in a safe and secure condition so you can ensure the safety of your tenants while optimizing the value of your property.

The first thing I did when I moved into my new house was install security lights around the perimeter of the property. I think that proper lighting is the first line of defense. Next, I added a decorative, yet security bars on the outside of the windows. Yes, I know they are not the best solutions if there is a fire in your house, but I do not want unwanted people in my home.

For the best protection, install a wrought iron security door over your front door. Wrought iron doors not only provide an extra level of visible security against a break-in, they also allow you to open your front door to strangers, or leave the front door open for ventilation.
